VSAT-Light - Cost effective fiber optic solution for VSAT terminals

November 30, 2009 - May 27, 2011

Foxcom announced today the release of its VSAT-Light line of products. The VSAT-Light line of products enables standard VSAT terminals to deploy fiber optic cable rather than traditional high loss coaxial cable between the VSAT outdoor unit and indoor modem.

Foxcom’s VSAT-Light product line is sold as a kit with compact indoor (IDU) and outdoor units (ODU). The IDU interfaces with the satellite Modem while the ODU connects to the block upconverter (BUC) and LNB at the antenna. Two singlemode fiber optic strands are used to connect the units. Fiber optic cable does not suffer from the same kinds of security, environmental and electromagnetic disadvantages that traditional coaxial cable does. Fiber optic inter-facility links offer the best lightning protection for VSAT operators, many of whom operate in regions that are prone to frequent and costly lightning strikes. Foxcom’s VSAT-Light products support bi-directional L-band transport and 10MHz reference signal to the BUC. The fiber optic ODU can optionally provide power for both the BUC and the LNB.

Foxcom’s VSAT-Light fiber optic IFL is compatible with the majority of VSAT modems and dishes. Foxcom CEO, Mr. Jack Hotz said “Once again Foxcom has demonstrated that it is a true leader in the Satcom industry by bringing to the market a very cost effective and leading edge product.” Foxcom released demo systems to several strategic partners for evaluation and the results were outstanding. Foxcom’s partners were delighted with the ease of installation as well as the performance boost that the VSAT-Light product line provides over traditional coaxial infrastructure.
